These were towns that had different names: Shash, Uni, Binkent, Tashkent in fact and others. |

Once upon a time people decided to build a town and during the time of construction a winged snow leopard descended from the mountains to see their progress. He liked the new town and leopard came back to his place purring with pleasure. People were pleased also and they had chosen snow leopard as symbol of the town. Today it stands in beauty on the emblem of Samarkand. Probably there is no country in the world were people don’t know about Samarkand this pearl of the East, city which today is almost three thousand years old. |

Bukhara is pearl of East

Bukhara – the pearl of East, is one of the most ancient and beautiful cities of Central Asia. The destiny of many outstanding scientists and thinkers poets and people’s masters of past gone centuries is connected with this name. This is the city where were created multiple masterpieces of Moslem architecture. One of Bukhara proverbs reads:” In the whole world the light comes down from heavens and only in Bukhara it rises from the earth”. |

The well Kheivak exists even now, its guardian the ancient lady, who in her youth with no doubt was a Khorezmian beauty died recently at the age of close to ninety her children wandered off leaving the keys of home to the neighbors, who kindly open doors for visitors. Nobody drinks water from this well and it is not known is there water or not and how it tastes. But this very well gives the name to this city. How Khiva appeared? |

That’s how it was described by Ruiz Gonzales de Klaviho who visited Shahrisiabs as the head of Spanish diplomatic mission to the court of Amir Timur in 1404:” This city lies on the plain. From all sides there were many streams and canals and from all sides it was surrounded by plenty of gardens and houses. The city was surrounded by earth bank and deep moat, at the entrances there were draw bridges”. At that time the city was called Kesh after the name of the upper reaches of the Kaskadaria river valley. |
